How can we help?

Nanea is an unguided meditation timer: no voices, no lessons, no levels — just you, a chime, and the quiet. This page answers the most common questions. If you don't find what you need, we're happy to help.

The basics

How do I begin a sitting?

On the Meditate tab, pick a length (5 to 60 minutes) and press Begin. A soft chime brings you back when the time is up. That's the whole thing — nothing to learn, nothing in the way.

What if I want to stop early?

Press and hold to end a sitting at any time. If you stop within the first minute, nothing is recorded — you can sit down, change your mind, and it won't count against you.

What does Nanea cost?

Nanea is free, and sitting stays free — every length, every sound, every chime, for as long as you like. One optional purchase opens your full Journey, the calendar, and the Path. Once, not monthly — there's no subscription and no ads. One note: the App Store and Google Play are separate stores, so a purchase covers one of them — buying on iPhone covers your Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch), and buying on Google Play covers your Android phone and Wear OS watch.

I already bought the app — what happens now?

Nothing changes. Everything you paid for is still yours, and you'll never be asked to buy it again. If the app ever does ask, open Preferences and tap Restore Purchase — it checks with the store and puts it right.

Why is the app always in light mode?

Nanea is intentionally light and paper-like — it's part of the calm, unguided feel.

Sounds & chimes

Can I change the background sound or chime?

Yes. On the Meditate tab, tap Sound to choose a background (rain, a forest, a singing bowl, space, and more — or none), and tap Chime to choose the bell that gently brings you back. Chime every sets how often it rings during a sitting.

Can I sit in silence?

Yes. Set Sound to None and only the chime marks the time; set both Sound and Chime to None for complete quiet.

Does the sound keep playing when my screen is locked?

Yes. Both the background sound and the interval chime continue with the screen off. On Apple Watch and Wear OS, each chime also lands as a soft tap on your wrist.

Reminders & focus

How do I set a daily reminder?

Open Preferences → Daily reminder and pick a time. It's one gentle notification a day — no badges, no guilt. You can turn it off anytime.

How do I keep notifications from interrupting a sitting?

Preferences → Undisturbed sittings walks you through quieting your phone — a Focus on iPhone, Do Not Disturb on Android — so nothing interrupts while you sit.

Can I keep the screen from dimming — or dim it more?

Preferences → Keep screen awake keeps the display on for the whole sitting. Dim sittings after dark softens the screen in the evening so a late sitting isn't a bright light in a dark room. Both are on by default.

New to this?

If you're used to a voice walking you through, the quiet here can feel like something's missing. It isn't. The voice was always pointing at the same thing: your own attention. Nanea just hands it back sooner.

The whole instruction is short. Sit comfortably — chair, cushion, anywhere — with your back tall but not stiff. Close your eyes, or soften them toward the floor. Rest your attention on the breath, wherever you feel it most. When the mind wanders — it will — notice, and come back. That's the practice, not a mistake.

There is no doing it well. There is only sitting down, and beginning again.

Your Journey & syncing

What does the Journey tab show?

A quiet record of the days you show up — your minutes, sittings, streaks, and a calendar you can page back through. It's a record, not a game: no points, no levels, no pressure.

Do my sittings sync across devices?

Yes — through your own cloud, with no account to create and nothing of your history we can see. On Apple devices, sign into the same Apple Account and your history syncs through iCloud. On Android, connect Preferences → Sync to Google Drive and your history backs up to your own Drive; a Wear OS watch syncs with your phone directly.

What is the “Sync to iCloud” row in Preferences?

It shows whether your history has been backed up to your private iCloud — a reassuring “backed up” when all is well, or a gentle “waiting to sync” if it hasn't caught up yet (usually because you're signed out of iCloud or offline). Tap it for more.

What is the “Sync to Google Drive” row in Preferences?

The Android counterpart. Connect it once and your sittings back up to your own Google Drive automatically while Nanea is open, and appear on any Android device signed into the same Google account. Nanea can only see the small file it creates — nothing else in your Drive.

Do sittings move between an iPhone and an Android phone?

Not today. Each platform keeps your history in its own cloud — iCloud on Apple devices, Google Drive on Android — and the two don't cross.

How do I clear my history?

Preferences → Reset Journey permanently deletes your minutes, sittings, and streaks on this device and every device it syncs with — through iCloud on Apple devices, Google Drive on Android. You'll be asked to confirm, and it can't be undone.

The Path

What is the Path?

An optional bit of structure: 7 or 30 days of sitting, with one quiet intention for each day. Begin one whenever you like from the Journey tab, and leave it whenever you don't.

How does a day get completed?

By one continuous sitting of at least that day's suggested length. Shorter sittings don't add up to a day — and a long enough free sitting counts too, so you're never forced onto the path to make the day.

What happens if I miss a day?

Nothing breaks and nothing resets. The path simply waits where you left it until you sit again.

How do I end a path?

Open the path's day (from the Journey card or the Home status row) and choose to end it there. Ending a path never touches your history.

Watches, widgets & Siri

Is there an Apple Watch app?

Yes, and it's the whole experience, standalone — turn the Digital Crown to set your minutes, press begin, and sit. A soft tap marks each interval chime even with the screen off, and your history syncs quietly between watch and phone. There's also a watch-face complication that keeps your current streak close.

Is there a Wear OS app?

Yes. The watch carries the full sitting — turn the bezel or crown to set your minutes, press Begin, and sit. Chimes arrive as soft taps on the wrist, with the tone alongside when your watch can play sound, and your history syncs quietly with your phone. The sound and chime options appear on the watch when it has a speaker or headphones connected. A watch-face complication keeps your current streak close here as well.

Is there a Home Screen or Lock Screen widget?

Yes. On iPhone, add the Nanea widget from the widget gallery to keep your current streak in view; there's a Lock Screen version too. On Android, add it from your launcher's widget picker. Tapping it opens the app — it doesn't start a sitting on its own.

What's the card on my Lock Screen during a sitting?

That's a Live Activity showing the running sitting's countdown, on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. It's read-only — tap it to open the app. You can turn Live Activities off entirely in Settings → Nanea if you'd rather not see it. On Android, a quiet notification shows the countdown instead.

Can I start a sitting with Siri or Shortcuts?

Yes. Ask Siri to “Begin a sitting in Nanea,” or add the Begin a Sitting action to a Shortcut or automation. It begins your path's day if one is walking, otherwise a free sitting at your saved length.

Troubleshooting

I can't hear anything.

Check that your device isn't on silent, the volume is up, and — if you're using AirPods or a speaker — that they're connected. If you chose None for the sound, that's expected; only the chime will play.

A sitting didn't show up in my Journey.

Sittings shorter than a minute aren't recorded, on purpose. If a longer sitting is missing on another device, open the app there — history from other devices catches up when Nanea comes to the foreground.

Apple Health or Health Connect isn't recording my minutes.

On iPhone, open Preferences → Sync to Apple Health and make sure access is on; if it was previously denied, grant it in Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Nanea. On Android, Preferences → Sync to Health Connect takes you to the right screen to allow mindful minutes. Nanea only writes mindful minutes; it never reads your health data.

My reminder isn't arriving.

Confirm the reminder is on in Preferences → Daily reminder, and that notifications for Nanea are allowed in your phone's notification settings. On some Android phones, strict battery settings can hold notifications back — allowing unrestricted battery use for Nanea in Settings → Apps → Nanea → Battery clears it.

How health sync works

On iPhone, allow access in Preferences → Sync to Apple Health and each completed sitting is saved to Apple Health as mindful minutes. On Android, Preferences → Sync to Health Connect does the same through Health Connect. Nanea only writes — it never reads your health data, and you can revoke access anytime.
